The artist, architect and designer of “Tehran Chair” believes that among the reasons for some architects’ activities to design and manufacture chairs, it can be mentioned to increase creativity, develop interactions with users and pay attention to the modern dimensions of the field of architecture along with other traditional methods.
Art Online Architecture Group: Ali Lavasani, one of the artists in the field of architecture, told Art Online reporter about his latest work “Tehran Chair”: I was a furniture seller when I was a student and I was very interested in carpentry. To participate in the Italian furniture competition, the Barcelona chair with a design by the famous architect Mies van der Rohe and Lili Reich caught my attention, so I decided to design the Tehran chair to participate in the Italian furniture competition. This work is part of a collection that was formed with the concern of design based on the identity of cities, especially their architectural elements.
He said about the symbols used in the design of this chair and the raw materials used: The main goal of the design was not to make the chair based on custom. The idea and proportions of this chair are inspired by one of the most famous symbols of Tehran, the Freedom Tower, and the chair top is made of natural hemp and cotton threads, inspired by Iranian carpets.
The body of the chair is made of wood with natural German plant color, which, in addition to durability and water resistance, does not harm the nature and is designed in a sustainable way. Different cross-sections can be seen on the chair. When you look at the chair from the front view, you can see both wide and narrow. This form of simultaneous narrow and wide design in the body of the chair, in addition to increasing its strength, also contributes to its beauty, so the cross-sectional area of the chair cut from anywhere, we get an oval geometric shape, which we tried to avoid copying while obtaining a different design.
Lavasani said about the efficiency of “Tehran Chair”: Contrary to what it seems at first, we are not dealing with a comfortable chair, and although no foam or cotton was used in the construction of the chair, but due to the use of adverbs in the process of its construction, it creates curvature in the place. Sitting and coordinating the form of the support area with the ergonomics of the body, you can sit comfortably and calmly for hours on this chair. Besides, the space is used both inside the house and outside, and soon a table will be placed next to this chair.
He added: In general, the design and construction style of “Tehran Chair” is modern and simple and offers a high degree of comfort based on the knowledge of aesthetics.
This architect artist said about why and the necessity of chair design by architects: During their studies, apart from learning building design, architects acquire other extensive skills, which include project management, attention to details, coordination of teams, and other such skills. And it is common for architects to be drawn to furniture design, especially chair design. The single chair is one of the interesting components in the arrangement because it has two functional and decorative aspects at the same time. Also, this type of chair can be used to create variety in the style of living room arrangement, to have a cozy corner for reading in the bedroom or even to create an intimate atmosphere in the hall of the house. Currently, the use of single chairs is widely seen in modern and contemporary spaces, but it is suggested that interior designers of our country use products signed by Iranian artists instead of using foreign examples, including in the furniture sector.
